How to Stay Motivated to Write
Real Advice
Staying motivated can be difficult when it comes to writing blog posts, articles, and social media posts. These stay motivated to write tips are going to help you stay motivated and keep you on track.
You can write. You can tell a story. You can create a compelling message. But you want to write more, create better content, and tell better stories. Your challenge is to stay motivated to write.
What are the best ways to stay motivated to write? Here is one trick I’ve learned over the years from being a student and freelance writer:
Write the first draft quickly.
There’s a lot of advice around about how not to edit yourself as you go, but when you’re just starting out, it’s okay to have a little gatekeeper in your head.
Tell yourself that you’ll let your inner editor out later — for now, just get the ideas on paper. Even if you don’t think your first draft is any good, keep going!
Remember that your first draft is supposed to be crap anyway. You’re still being productive and writing words on paper. At this stage in the game, quantity matters more than quality! Once you’ve written the first draft of something (anything!), put it away for at least 24 hours before you look at it again or start revising it.
