The Fitness Industry Hates Me
There was one point in time where many in the fitness industry looked up to me as an authority on nutritional science. I had the respect of big names such as Layne Norton, Alan Aragon, and Mike Israetel. But I threw it down the drain.
I felt morally compelled to change my platform to a new topic following the middle of the pandemic. I became disillusioned with the evidence-based fitness community because of their denial of basic facts. The fact of the matter is COVID-19 is real, vaccines do work, and deciding whether or not to get vaccinated is not a mere personal choice.
However, this was not wildly accepted within the evidence-based fitness sphere. So, what is evidence-based? How can we as coaches and fitness professionals be considered “evidence-based” when we reject the evidence from other fields?
This lead me to cast aside the label of “coach” and my online persona “Mr.Cogfit”. Which is difficult to do when you’re gaining so much respect, a following, and attention. Every week I was turning down podcast episode appearances because I just didn’t have time!
But now that dried up, do I regret it? Absolutely not, I do not regret changing over my content and persona. I am proud of myself for sticking up for science in the face of seemingly overwhelming opposition.
